What Is A Parlay?

E-mail Print PDF

Ever since online betting was created in the early 1990s, bettors have been able to wager two ways, straight and exotic. Today we will be looking at the parlay bet one of the more exotic wagers in sports gambling.

A parlay bet is one in which you can wager on multiple games while only making a single bet. For instance, two games take place, Leafs v. Flyers and Senators v. Islanders. How the parlay works is that you place a single bet while picking both the Leafs and Islanders to win their games. In order for the bet to be a winner, you need both teams to win. If the Islanders lose and the Leafs win, your bet is still counted as a loss because you wanted both teams to win. However, if both the Leafs and Islanders win, you can make a big profit.

Now it is important to note, that the two team parlay is the most basic type of parlay bet there is. Sports bettors that are feeling extra lucky can bet on a maximum of 10 teams at most sportsbooks. Conversely, what many new bettors do not know is that you can parlay your wagers on things other than teams winning games outright. These other methods allow for you to benefit greatly if you win, while not losing very much if you lose.

For instance, you can bet the final score on games across the board at different sports. One sportsbook alone had a promotion where on a 12 team parlay you could win $205,000 for every $100 you bet, so long as you got all 12 teams correct.

It also rather important for you to remember that although parlay bets are quite appealing for their high payouts, they are also known as sucker bets. As appealing as $205,000 sounds for winning a 12 team parlay, just think of how hard it is to predict that two teams will win let alone 12.
